The Kala Mandira started out as an institution to propagate and teach Karnatak music. The Chief founder Smt. G.V Neela who was also the Principal, would teach violin and Smt. G.V Ranganayakamma would teach veena. Both the sisters would also teach vocal music to students. Sri G.V Krishnaprasad taught the mridanga.
